Pertinent information for Chamber members and the community

Social Media: Is It Good For Business?

Blog 2 Comments

I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of facebook or twitter for my personal use. While I enjoy getting news updates from friends’ & families’ posts, I don’t post my daily activities very often. I’m still struggling with the idea of putting too much personal information in such a public format.

When it comes to business use of social media, however, I believe it has become an integral part of doing business. Since the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce began using facebook and twitter over a year ago, we have seen an increase in interest and involvement in Chamber events. We are able to communicate with our members and potential members in an efficient manner. We also receive constant feedback so we can gauge our effectiveness. Maintaining a presence in the social media network has enabled us to reach new members and stay in touch with some who have moved away. We use facebook to advertise events and post photos of our activities. This is an easy way to keep members informed.

Has your business been successful in using social media?
Do you believe it’s a necessary tool for business in our day?

    Hi Stacia,
Great article. It is awesome to see the chamber embracing social media and blogging.

I totally agree with you and I enjoy seeing the participation from our membership.
To answer your first question: I feel our business has had great success in social media and social marketing on Facebook and Twitter. We have been fairly reserved in our efforts. We have achieved great results for our clients. One of our recent campaigns received 1,500 fans in about 1 month and their business is now getting lots of requests from potential clients every day!

In regards to your second question, I feel we are living in a wonderful time and experiencing a huge shift in the way people (and businesses) communicate. This is a pivotal moment for businesses, just as important as the invention of the radio or the television. Social Media is just getting started. If your business is not talking to your customers on Facebook, Twitter and anywhere they hang out online, guess who is! Your competition.

P.S. I agree with you about not putting too much personal info online.

  2. Stacia,

It is great to see the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce embracing this new technology. The ilivetoday team is committed to branding local businesses through the use of third-party platforms i.e. FB, Youtube, WordPress, linkedin, Twitter, Vodpod, Tumblr, Posterous, ilivetoday and many more linking all the social media sites to a clear and concise landing page. This is when Social-Networking for businesses becomes Socialnomics. We have taken many businesses into the new order, “Socio-Branding” please feel free because it is free to make the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce a member of the Antelope Valley’s premier Social Network ilivetoday.com
